Schwartz Off Road Motorsportz debuted a new Polaris RZR Turbo SXS in Crandon, WI

Schwartz Off Road Motorsportz debuted a new Polaris RZR Turbo SxS in Crandon, WI for rounds 1 & 2 of the Lucas Oil Midwest Short Course League (LOMSCL). Despite poor weather and mechanical issues, the team made significant progress in dialing in our new SxS.

First and foremost, we can’t thank all our sponsors and supporters enough for their help building the new SxS this offseason. It was a long process and I can say that each sponsor played a role in making the final product so great. The 2019 LOMSCL season kicked off with a doubleheader in Crandon, WI. This “Big House” of off-road racing is known for its high speeds and legendary turn one. The track truly is on every off-road racers bucket list. In typical Crandon fashion, we were welcomed by two days of cold rain. Tech inspection on Friday went smoothly, but rain canceled Friday practices and qualifying Saturday morning. The track crew worked their magic and by Saturday afternoon the track was ready for racing.

Without practice or qualifying the starting order was randomly drawn and we drew a 19th out of 25. Without practice or qualifying, I didn’t really have any seat time in the new car, aside from some laps at the local oval track. Track conditions were perfect, but our race was cut short after some steering and brake issues became intolerable. Our late race DNF resulted in a 15th place finish. The team worked hard through the night to get the car ready for Sunday’s qualifying session.

Sunday morning’s qualifying session came with some engine top end issues resulting in some poor lap times. We worked hard to get the issues resolved, but they continued into the race Sunday afternoon. A fuel delivery issue ended our race early leaving us with a 21st place finish. Both finishes are disappointing, but realizing the car is new these issues will surface. The car is fast, and we are excited to see what it can do once dialed in.

Unfortunately, rounds 5-6 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series in Wheatland, Missouri were canceled due to damage to the facility from recent tornados. As a team, we are looking for other opportunities to race this season on a local or national level to replace those missed rounds. We head to ERX Motorsports Park in Elk River, Minnesota for rounds 3-4 (July 12-13) next. We have a lot of work to do before then but are ready to get back on the track.

As always, we appreciate the support this season and look forward to the next six rounds of racing!

Erik Schwartz,
Short Course Driver
