Weller Racing shines in Lucas Oil Off Road Racing season opener

The 2018 short-course race season is in full swing, and Rounds 1 and 2 of the Lucas Oil Regional AZ Series got off to a great start for Weller Racing!
Corry Weller debuted her brand new Can-Am Maverick X3 DS loaded with X-Treme Heavy Duty Axles in the Prod Turbo class and swept the weekend with two first-place qualifiers and two race wins!

“When we knew we wanted to race in the Prod Turbo class, we knew we wanted to race a Can-Am X3, but we weren’t sure which model would suit my driving style as well as the tracks in our series,” said Corry. “We thought long and hard on it and chose the DS model, which is the 64” wide model over their wider RS version. We felt that it would be more nimble and more like the Yamaha YXZ I was used to racing, and it definitely seems to be working well so far!” She added, “And WOW is it fast! It is really fun to drive, and I’m looking forward to getting it even more dialed in over the race season.”

Jason Weller would also be racing over the weekend, putting his newly built Yamaha YXZ 1000R equipped with Demon Heavy Duty X-Treme Axles on the track for the first time this season and competing in the Prod 1000 class. With a HUGE turnout of over 20 vehicles, the Prod 1000 class was the largest class to hit the dirt for Rounds 1 and 2. Jason just couldn’t seem to shake his bad luck from Round 1 in Glen Helen, however, and got off to a great start on Saturday’s race only to get tangled up with a competitor who spun out in front of him, dropping him to the back of the field early in Round 1. He made a heroic charge to finish 9th overall at the checkers. Sunday, his luck didn’t change as he started on the pole after qualifying 4th in the stacked field. He stayed in it, however, and pulled off a 12th place finish to earn as many points as possible for round 2.

Corry Weller also raced her Dragonfire Racing/Full Throttle Battery SR1 in the newly updated SR1 Class. She qualified 2nd both days, early in the race after almost wrecking from a mid-air collision from a competitor. On Sunday, she was battling for the lead early in the race when her transmission failed, leaving her battling for the position without the ability to downshift into 1st, but managed to pull off a 3rd place podium finish after all.
